Hunters can set their calendars for the 2017-2018 seasons after these proposed dates were offered by the state’s Wildlife Division earlier this month.

There are several major changes if these dates are approved by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission after oversight by the Louisiana Legislature.

Among these changes are a Friday opening of the September teal season, which will run Sept. 15-30 — a move waterfowl biologists hope will give hunters more opportunity than what would have been a traditional Sept 9-24 season — but the season will end on a Saturday.

There are two more: the season limit in State Deer Areas 4 and 10 will be lowered (from six per season) to three with a limit of no more than two antlered or two antlerless deer, and a week later opening of the 2018 spring turkey season to the first weekend in April.
