KLFY

A man who went missing while hunting in the swampy Atchafalaya Basin yesterday has been found alive.

Capt. Wendell Raborn said Cody Abshire, of Scott, was found just after 7 p.m. by a volunteer of the search party, according to a report from KLFY.

He was reportedly dehydrated and had some symptoms of hypothermia, but was in good spirits.

He has since received medical attention from Acadian Ambulance.

Abshire got lost from his hunting party after becoming disoriented in a remote area of the Basin yesterday afternoon.

His friends contacted local authorities when Abshire did not return last night.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office began searching the basin around 10 a.m. Monday and called for assistance from the Coast Guard around 12:58 p.m.

Deputies from Iberia and St. Mary Parishes, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents and volunteers searched for Abshire in the swamp about 20 miles northeast of Franklin.
