Greetings from Department of Natural Resources Assistant Secretary Lou Buatt. Coastit Notes is a publication of the Office of Coastal Management to inform permit applicants, the public and others of events and items that may impact them or their interaction with our office. This e-document is intended to improve customer service and awareness of OCM works and functions and includes announcements from all OCM divisions as issues arise. The Office of Coastal Management is pleased to announce that
three new employees have been added to replace staff who have left the agency
or have moved to other positions. Heather Evans is working in the
Enforcement Section East position that was previously held by Jaimie Thibodeaux
who left the agency, Craig LeBlanc is working in the Field Services position
that was previously held by Chuck Spears who recently retired and Jessica
Williamson was selected to fill the Permits Section position that was
previously held by Harmon Brown who moved to the Oil Spill Liaison
position. Dr. Van Thomas Van Biersel will be working in the DNR
Secretary’s Office on the Surface Water Management Program in support of Act
955 of the 2010 Legislative session.

Louisiana Coastal Zone Management Program Section 309
Assessment and Strategy
Section 309 of the Coastal Zone Management Act establishes a
voluntary coastal zone enhancement grants program to encourage states and
territories to develop program changes in one or more of nine pre-identified
enhancement areas. The enhancement areas are: public access, coastal
hazards, ocean resources, wetlands, cumulative and secondary impacts, marine
debris, special area management plans, government and facility siting, and
aquaculture.
The Louisiana Coastal Zone Management Program is submitting
its Section 309 Assessment and Strategy Grant five year strategy for 2011 –
2015 to the Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management (OCRM), part of the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). A copy of the 309
Assessment and Strategy report is available for review at the Coastal
Management office, LaSalle Building, 10th floor and on the DNR Website.

Local Coastal Programs to be reviewed
Periodic Review of Local Coastal Programs
FY 2008-2010
The State Office of Coastal Management is conducting
periodic reviews of the 10 approved parish Local Coastal Programs (LCPs):
Calcasieu, Cameron, Jefferson, Lafourche, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard,
St. James, St. Tammany, and Terrebonne, pursuant to La. R. S.
49:214.28(H)(3). Documentation relevant to the review will be available
to the public at the Louisiana Office of Coastal Management offices on the 10th
floor of the LaSalle Building at 617 N. 3rd St., Baton Rouge, LA 70802.
The public is invited to submit comments by mail or email for consideration
during the review. Correspondence and additional information regarding
