Matt Land

Dixie Choppers

Matt Land has been around equipment most of his life. Raised on a farm in west central Indiana, Matt learned about equipment at a young age. Operating a family farm, Matt also learned the necessity of operating efficiently. Matt remembers well the impacts of the gasoline shortage and soaring interest rates of the mid to late ’70s and early ’80s.

Matt worked summers mowing grass while attending Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind.  Nearly a decade later he discovered Dixie Chopper while managing an equipment tool rental in Indianapolis. Matt began using the Dixie Chopper on commercial properties he still maintained. He understood immediately the value of having the ability to do the same amount of work in one-third the time. Matt understood this afforded him the opportunity to make three times the money in the same amount of time.

In addition to using Dixie Choppers, Matt began selling them. He was the first man in the nation to retail more than 100 units in a single season. Matt left the tool rental business in 1996 to work, as a consultant for companies implementing change.

Matt and Dixie Chopper’s paths crossed again in July 2001. Matt was hired full-time to lead an overhaul in customer service, sales and marketing. During his tenure, the company has increased its sales and production four fold. Matt has been instrumental in bringing the propane-powered Dixie Chopper to market, as evidenced by his commitment to drive the propane-powered Dixie from Greencastle, Ind., to Sacramento, Calif., via Route 66. This alternative fuel awareness campaign landed him on the cover of Route 66 the Magazine.  In January 2008, he accepted an award from The Clean Cities Coalitions for product development in the field of propane.

Matt is married and has four children.  He and his wife Bev and enjoy playing golf, motorcycling, and other outdoor activities. He is an avid Indianapolis Colts fan, and Matt was in attendance when the Colts won the Super Bowl in 2007.

Dixie Chopper is “The World’s Fastest Lawn Mower.” Created in 1980, Dixie Chopper was the first commercial-grade zero-turn lawn mower. With mowers available in more than 20 models, Dixie Choppers are manufactured and assembled in Greencastle and Coatesville, Ind.
