2011 Atchafalaya Basin Sweep: The 2011 Atchafalaya Basin Sweep will take place this weekend on Saturday, November 5 from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. This is the Evangeline Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America's 2nd Annual trash clean-up event aimed at picking up trash and beautifying critical access points into the Basin. In addition to volunteers from the public, only Boy Scout Troops, Venturing Crews, second year Webelos, their families and leaders from the eight parishes that make up the Council are invited to gather at boat ramps and other sites scattered throughout the Basin to assist with the clean-up efforts.
Last year's event was a HUGE success, as Boy Scouts removed an estimated 45,000 lbs. of garbage! This year they will strive remove over 50,000 pounds.
Volunteers are encouraged to stay safe and wear orange or brightly colored clothing as this event is taking place during hunting season. Those without proper clothing will not be able to participate, so don't forget to Stay Safe and Wear Orange.
