Mineral Board announces May Lease Sale and Public Land CCS Operating Agreement Guidelines
Baton Rouge- The Louisiana Mineral and Energy Board conducted its monthly meeting and lease sale on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 in the LaBelle Room of the LaSalle Office Building in Baton Rouge.
During the meeting, board members approved a set of Carbon Sequestration Operating Agreement Procurement Guidelines to set rules and procedures for applicants seeking an operating agreement from the Board for permanent sequestration of carbon dioxide beneath state-owned land and water bottoms. The guidelines are intended to provide transparency and clarity to the public on Board processes and to companies interested in engaging with the state in such agreements.
The Board collected $57,935 in bonus revenue for the February lease sale. The current 2024-2025 total bonus payment is approximately $5.74 million. At this month’s lease sale, there were 2 leases covering 135 acres sold. The leases were located in Caddo Parish.
The total bonus payments to the state for the previous fiscal year, 2023-2024, amounted to $14 million.
