Atchafalaya Adventure Race to be held at Lake Fausse Pointe State Park
Come out and cheer on the teams at the finish line of the Atchafalaya Adventure Race (24-hour endurance event) on Sunday, February 16th at Lake Fausse Pointe State Park in Iberia Parish.
Race starts at 12 noon on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003:
- Twenty-five plus teams will participate in this third annual event
- Racing teams will be co-ed, all-male or all-female
- 110 miles to cover with 24 hours on the clock
- Includes 30 miles of canoeing, 60 miles of biking and 20 miles of running/hiking
- First, second and third place trophies to be presented at the finish line on Sunday
Scheduled public activities on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003:
- 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. music by a Cajun band
- gumbo, jambalaya, brisket and other refreshments
- watch athletes finish the race
- 4:30 p.m. - awards presentations
Because serious weather conditions prohibited the endurance race in October 2002, it was rescheduled for this month. The state Department of Natural Resources’ Atchafalaya Basin Program has provided funding for the adventure races, while the New Orleans Bowl organization coordinates and sponsors the races.
