Sparta Aquifer Determination Issued by Conservation Office

The state’s Office of Conservation has issued a final order today declaring portions of the Sparta Aquifer in north Louisiana to be critical ground water areas. The Commissioner of Conservation has made certain determinations and has spelled out the conditions to be followed as required by state law. Commissioner of Conservation James Welsh said the order does not mandate any current restrictions on new or existing water wells.

State Conservation Office acts on Sparta Aquifer in northern parishes

The Commissioner of Conservation issued a draft order today declaring portions of the Sparta Aquifer in north Louisiana to be critical ground water areas. The issuance of the draft order (CGWA-1-04) is the result of an application made by the Sparta Ground Water Conservation District in 2002.

DNR BEGINS PROGRAM TO CLEAN UP UNDERWATER HAZARDS IN COASTAL WATERS

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will soon employ divers and other professionals that will survey, locate and remove underwater obstructions and debris in coastal Louisiana waters. The new program known as the Underwater Obstruction Removal Program is administered by the Office of Conservation and was established by Act 666 of the 1997 Louisiana legislature. Diver surveys and hang removal work is expected to begin in May, DNR officials announced today.
