Office of Coastal Management
COASTAL UPDATES COMING YOUR WAY
The Department of Natural Resources' Public Information Office will soon begin operating a new information delivery system that will disseminate news and information via fax or mail to Louisiana officials and interested partners on all coastal projects administered by the state including CWPPRA (Breaux Act) projects.
DNR Secretary Jack Caldwell conceived the idea to integrate the department's external mailing list database with a computerized geographic information system mapping program to allow effective and fast notification to federal, state, and local officials about the state's coastal program. His vision was to provide public officials and their constituents with firsthand information available from the Office of Coastal Restoration and Management by using enhanced computer technology. This innovative concept that was developed from Secretary Caldwell's idea is another step in the department's efforts to increase public awareness and outreach.
DNR's GIS specialists and Public Information staff modified an existing marketing system with a FoxPro™ database and ArcView™ GIS software to establish this new information delivery and outreach system.
