Coming Soon to a Library Near You Educational video on Nonpoint Source Pollution

Friday, December 8, 2000

An educational video on the topic of Nonpoint Source Pollution has been produced by the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Nonpoint Source Pollution poses a serious environmental problem for coastal waters and other waterbodies in our state.

The 30-minute video called Rainwater Blues, encourages all citizens to help prevent this type of water pollution. The film directs its audience to be aware of a number of nonpoint source pollution examples such as disposal of motor oils, fertilizers, and other products on land and surfaces that rainwater can carry into drainage ways that dump into lakes, rivers and bayous.

DNR coastal officials plan to provide main branch public libraries throughout the state with a copy of the video. According to DNR officials, those libraries are expected to receive the video by January 5, 2001. Additionally, public access television channels in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Alexandria, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Shreveport, Monroe, Morgan City, Natchitoches, Houma, Thibodaux, New Iberia and Franklin will begin airing Rainwater Blues on Monday, December 11, 2000.
