CONSERVATION AND IOGCC OFFER WORKSHOPS FOR OILFIELD OPERATORS
Department of Natural Resources' (DNR) Office of Conservation and the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission (IOGCC) will hold two workshops in the state designed to help operators in the oil and gas business evaluate and minimize waste generated from drilling, production, and pipeline operations. The workshops will be held in Lafayette and Shreveport, DNR officials said.
According to Assistant Conservation Commissioner Jim Welsh, workshop presenter Bart Sims of Texas is a noted authority on oilfield waste minimization practices. Sims is manager of the state of Texas Railroad Commission's Environmental Services.
Welsh said, "In addition to industry benefits, the workshops provide special training and knowledge for our conservation field agents and technical staff." Louisiana Conservation Commissioner Philip Asprodites recommended and arranged for the seminars through IOGCC. He said the conservation office supports the practice of waste minimization in the industry since it reduces operating and waste management costs, increases revenue, reduces regulatory compliance concerns and eliminates potential liability concerns.
Workshops will be held from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm:

Hilton Hotel
1521 W. Pinhook Road, Lafayette, LAMonday, March 13, 2000
