DENR Reorg Bill SB244 Signed Into Law

On June 24, 2025, Gov. Jeff Landry, joined by Louisiana Department of Energy and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Tyler Gray, Deputy Secretary Dustin Davidson and legislators, signed SB 244 into law — reorganizing DENR and renaming it as the Louisiana Department of Conservation and Energy (DCE).
The reorganization and rebranding will formally take effect on Oct. 1st, to give DENR staff and leadership time to make the transition. Gray said Gov. Landry’s signature enacting the legislation as law was the culmination of more than 18 months of work to design and refine the updates for an agency that had changed little since its creation nearly a half-century ago.
“We’ve been working with our internal staff and external stakeholders for more than a year to put together a plan that makes the best use of existing technology, proven processes and our people in order to make DCE more effective and efficient in its role of balancing the needs of supporting energy and sustaining our shared environment,” Gray said.
