Monday, February 13, 2012

BATON ROUGE- On Feb. 13th, energy field executives and government officials from Bolivia, India, Iraq, Nepal, Poland, and South Africa visited Louisiana as part of a ‘U.S. Foreign Policy and Energy Security’ study team sponsored by the U.S. State Department International Visitor Leadership Program. This select group of foreign dignitaries were briefed on energy matters, particularly the shale gas plays across America and the Haynesville Shale in north Louisiana.

Commissioner of Conservation Jim Welsh, DNR Office of Coastal Management Coastal Administrator Karl Morgan, and La. Mid Continent Oil and Gas (LMOGA) Director of Environmental Affairs Richard Metcalf are shown in this photo taken in the executive board room at the LMOGA offices with the group. Commissioner Welsh has hosted meetings and special educational sessions like this for visitors from all over the globe for over 10 years.

The New Orleans Citizen Diplomacy Council is a nonprofit organization that arranges professional appointments and cultural activities for the State’s Department International Visitor Leadership Program. The Council works with DNR Public Information Office to plan and coordinate the visits.
