The state Department of Natural Resources' (DNR), Technology Assessment Division has awarded its entitlement in the amount of $499,000 to the Louisiana State University AgCenter Cooperative Extension for use by the Louisiana House Resource Center (LaHouse) to educate the public on energy efficiency in homes.

DNR gets EPA grant for home energy efficiency program
The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Technology Assessment Division has been awarded a $200,000 grant from the EPA to supplement its HERO Program (Home Energy Rebate Option) which offers incentives for the use of energy efficient products and measures in residential structures. The program encourages home owners and home buyers in Louisiana to use energy efficient measures in their homes resulting in both energy conservation and cost savings on utility usage.
According to DNR Energy Program Manager Paula Ridgeway, "the program funds are disbursed in the form of rebates or loans." Since 1999, the HERO program has enrolled over 17,000 homes. Homes in the program are performance tested and rated. Ratings are done by certified home energy raters available across the state.
