DNR Energy Force Meets BREC Swamp Stompers at Nature Center

Monday, June 22, 2015

BATON ROUGE - Summer campers can look forward to a spirited science lesson on “What is Renewable Energy?” from the state Department of Natural Resources’ Energy Office during the summer at BREC’s Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center.

DNR’s community outreach efforts include classroom presentations to students during the regular school year as well as educational outings with youth groups during the summer months. This year, DNR has joined forces with summer campers who are focused on experiences found in the natural world.

“Wind and solar energy are excellent topics for campers to learn about while they enjoy many of the traditional outdoor activities,” noted DNR Energy Program Director Paul Miller.

We are excited that Department of Natural Resources is working with us to teach our summer campers that they have the power to protect our environment no matter their age,” said BREC Superintendent Carolyn McKnight. She said conservation and sustainability is a core pillar of the BREC mission.

DNR Energy staff will meet the Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center’s Stompers, ages 7 to 10 years, on June 10, 17, 24 and July 15 and 22.
