DNR GEOLOGIST RECEIVES PRESIDENTIAL AWARD

The American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG ) has honored Dr. Madhurendu B. Kumar with its Presidential Certificate of Merit for his leadership as General Chairman of the 1998 AIPG National Conference held in October in Baton Rouge. The award also recognized his latest publication, Issues and Answers on Petroleum in the Environment, which was presented at AIPG's 35th annual conference at the Baton Rouge Hilton.

Kumar is a geologist with the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, Office of Conservation. With twenty-three years of professional state service, Kumar has devoted sixteen years at DNR as a Geologist Supervisor in Conservation's Geological Oil and Gas Division. He has published over 40 technical reports in this field. His Issues and Answers booklet covers information and statistical data on the petroleum industry nationally and internationally. In addition, his report highlights the current issues of public concern relative to the U.S. production and import of petroleum and associated regulatory and environmental affairs.

AIPG, founded in 1963, has more than 5,000 members in the U.S. and abroad. The organization promotes geology as a profession, certifies the competence and ethical conduct of geological scientists, and promotes public service. In 1993, Kumar received his first AIPG Presidential Certificate of Merit for professional excellence and leadership.
