DNR honors schools for taking energy savings steps

WHO: | Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Secretary Jack Caldwell U.S. Dept. of Energy (DOE), Administrator Barbara Alderson DOE officials have been invited to join DNR in presenting awards to six Louisiana school boards and one police jury |

Background: | With $13.6 million in tax-free bonds issued in the fall of 2002 and established by the state’s Energy Office at DNR: Allen, Avoyelles, Iberville, Natchitoches, St. Charles, and St. James Parishes School Systems and Evangeline Parish Police Jury will be making needed building improvements that will have long-term utility costs savings. DNR will recognize these public entities for being the first to participate in this new financing plan supported by the Louisiana Energy Fund. *** The Louisiana Energy Fund has been praised as the first-of-its- kind in the U.S. and is recognized as a “Success Story” in the ReBuild America (DOE) Program.
