DNR Secretary Angelle Comments on Cheniere Energy’s Third LNG Export Agreement

Tuesday, December 13, 2011

BATON ROUGE – Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Secretary Scott Angelle commented today on the third Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) sale and purchase agreement Cheniere Energy Partners, L.P. subsidiary Sabine Pass Liquefaction has made on a prospective LNG export customer in the past two months.

India’s largely state-owned GAIL (India) Ltd. company has agreed to a contract purchasing 3.5 million tons of LNG a year for 20 years once the second stage of the Sabine Pass facility is complete. The announcement follows similar agreements made in the last two months with Gas Natural Fenosa, a multinational natural gas and electricity provider based in Spain, and BG Gulf Coast LNG LLC.

“Our nation’s natural gas supply is an important part of our domestic energy equation. Even though Cheniere’s Sabine Pass facility is still in the regulatory approval stage, the energy market today is such that other countries are ready right now to commit to long-term purchase contracts because they believe in the sustainable production of the resource,” Angelle said. "The interest from other parts of the world in purchasing U.S.-produced natural gas is yet another sign that the energy exploration and production industry in this state and nation is poised to grow, bringing with it new jobs, new opportunities for business and new economic strength," said Angelle.
