DNR Secretary Angelle to Meet with BOEM Director Bromwich TOMORROW

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

BATON ROUGE – Tomorrow, DNR Secretary Scott Angelle and members of the Back to Work Coalition will meet with Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) Director Michael Bromwich and staff in Washington, D.C. to continue the discussion of the top three obstacles affecting the issuance of new deepwater drilling permits in the Gulf of Mexico.  Thursday's meeting will be the group’s fifth in the last four weeks.

“With each meeting, we continue to make progress and our negotiations over the next two weeks are critical to our success,” said Angelle.  “We remain highly focused on getting people back to work and on finding the energy to fuel America that will help reduce the gasoline prices that are crippling our middle class and crushing any chances for our nation’s economic recovery.”

As the state’s liaison between the offshore oil and gas industry and the federal government, Angelle continues to lead the effort to bring a return to responsible exploration in the Gulf of Mexico and the job and economic stability that come with it.

Through the establishment of the Back to Work Coalition, a group of industry representatives facilitated by the Gulf Economic Survival Team (GEST), Angelle has presented a unified voice to Director Bromwich and BOEM officials in order to create a clearer roadmap for resumption of normal Gulf exploration operations.
