Thursday, December 9, 2010

Department of Natural Resources Secretary Scott Angelle has announced that DNR's Atchafalaya Basin Program will be hosting a celebration this Saturday to commemorate a historic year in the management and promotion of the Atchafalaya Basin.

The Atchafalaya Basin Celebration will be held on Saturday, December 11 at Bass Pro Shop in Denham Springs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., marking the end of a 2010 year that brought new partners, new national attention and new tools for preserving the Atchafalaya Basin.

"The Atchafalaya Basin is the crown jewel of Louisiana's natural resources and this celebration will recognize those who have worked so diligently to promote, protect and preserve what nature has blessed us with," said Secretary Angelle.  "The Atchafalaya Basin Celebration will also offer us new opportunities to draw attention to both the value and the needs of one our great state's signature features."

The Atchafalaya Basin Celebration will feature a reading of "Cajun Night Before Christmas" by Troy Landry, cast member of History Channel's "Swamp People."  Additionally, photo opportunities with the entire cast of "Swamp People" will be available to the public.
