HOLLY BEACH COASTAL WORK TO BE DISCUSSED
DNR Holds Public Meeting on April 19th
The benefits of a proposed breakwaters and sand management plan for marshes in Cameron Parish will be discussed at a public meeting held by the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Coastal Restoration division on Wednesday, April 19, 2000 at 5 p.m. at the Police Jury Building, 110 Smith Circle.
At this informational meeting, citizens will hear from DNR coastal officials and the engineering contractor, Coastal Planning and Engineering, Inc. (CP&E), a nationally recognized firm based in Boca Raton, Florida. The firm will soon begin compiling data and conducting hydrographic and seismic surveys on the project. An interim project plan may be developed before the end of the year to deal with current erosion problems within the chenier plain in the Holly Beach area.
Preliminary plans for action and a project analyses report will be submitted to DNR before the actual construction work begins, pending funding approvals. A breakwater system computer model will also be used to evaluate project effectiveness.
