Humane Society Honors State Officials

State Department of Natural Resources’ Human Resources Director Mary Ginn was recently recognized for her role in animal protection, specifically for wildlife on Louisiana state parks. Ms. Ginn and Dr. Stuart Johnson, Assistant Secretary of the Office of State Parks, in March, received the Golden Heart Award presented by the Humane Society of Louisiana.
Ms. Ginn and Dr. Johnson helped write policies that govern the treatment and handling of wildlife and domestic animals that inhabit the parks in the State Parks system. The new procedures include having injured wildlife treated humanely and turned over to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and/or released in the wild. There are sixteen state parks in Louisiana.
Ms. Ginn continues to encourage all state park workers to become well-trained and educated on these new policies. She and Dr. Johnson were presented the award by Jeff Dorson, Executive Director of the Humane Society at a gathering at Tickfaw State Park.
