Office of Conservation
Incident Inspection Report Available
Louisiana Commissioner of Conservation James Welsh, in response to the Iberia Parish Council and U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu’s Office, has issued details about a recent incident and an inspection report completed by his office on the Jefferson Island Storage and Hub Facility located in Iberia parish.
The inspection report provides information about the operations at the plant on the day of January 29, 2008, when a nearby vehicular accident caused a power outage that caused the facility to use its generators to supply power for its operations. During the transition from one power source to the other, some natural gas was vented causing a loud noise. According to the report, once the breaker was reset, within minutes, the air flow supply was restored and the system corrected itself.
Commissioner Welsh has posted on the department’s website www.dnr.louisiana.gov the documentation associated with the incident and the March 18th, inspection report conducted by the Department of Natural Resources’ Office of Conservation Pipeline Division.
