June mineral lease sale brings six million to state

The state Mineral and Energy Board on Wednesday conducted its monthly lease sale in the LaBelle Room of the LaSalle Office Building in Baton Rouge.

The board collected more than $6 million in bonuses in the June sale, bringing the total collected for FY 09-10 to more than $61.4 million. For the calendar year, that total is $26.5 million.

At this month’s lease sale, the board awarded 20 leases covering more than 2,353 acres, out of 48 nominated tracts covering 39,124 acres.

The Board sold leases in Bossier, Caddo, Calcasieu, Cameron, Concordia, DeSoto, Plaquemines, Sabine, St. Mary and Terrebonne.  Of the 20 tracts awarded, nine were in north Louisiana and 11 were located in the southern parishes.
