NATIONAL PIPELINE SAFETY CHAIRMAN FROM LOUISIANA

The National Association of Pipeline Safety Representatives (NAPSR) recently named Joel Kohler of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) as its top executive. As chairman of NAPSR, Kohler is the first Louisianian to be elected to the post. His chairmanship sets the stage for Louisiana to host the group's 2001 national convention. He will also work on federal legislation aimed at improving interstate pipeline safety inspections.

NAPSR was formed in 1982, to set policies, procedure and standards for the gas and liquid pipeline industry across the United States. Membership is comprised of professionals from over 50 state pipeline safety programs with participation from the federal Department of Transportation and various trade organizations.

Kohler is a licensed petroleum and environmental engineer with DNR's Office of Conservation, Pipeline Division. He graduated from LSU in1982 and has worked at DNR for over fifteen years.
