Natural Resources Secretary Scott Angelle to teach middle school classes to commemorate Earth Day
Louisiana Department of Natural Resources Secretary Scott Angelle will be visiting two Lafayette middle schools on Wednesday, April 22, to teach a lesson on DNR’s role in the environment to 8th grade science classes.
The first class will be at St. Genevieve Middle School at 1500 E. Willow St. from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. The second class will be at Paul Breaux Middle School at 1400 S. Orange St. from 9:15 a.m. to 10 a.m. The events are open to the news media.
Angelle is teaching the classes as part of DNR’s effort in commemorating Earth Day this year.
Angelle is taking time to teach the course not only to help some students better understand what DNR’s role in the state is, but also the importance of striking balance between developing natural resources and protecting them.
“We at DNR believe that Louisiana does not have to be an either-or state. We can provide the energy our state and nation needs while still enjoying the benefits of a healthy and safe environment,” Angelle said. “That’s a message I want our young people to hear and take home.”
Angelle’s classroom visits are part of a series of events the agency has planned surrounding Earth Day 2009.
“Our department works to help protect our environment every day and every month of the year, but Earth Day is an appropriate time to highlight the efforts and issues that affect us all,” Angelle said.
