New Procedures for Permits Explained at Workshops in May

Wildlife and Fisheries and Natural Resources working together with MOU

Monday, May 16, 2005

A new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Louisiana Departments of Natural Resources (DNR) and Wildlife and Fisheries (DWF) was recently put into effect and now both agencies are eager to see the process work effectively. The new agreement deals with coordination procedures for proposed activities occurring in or affecting the state's coastal zone. Coastal management officials at DNR said the intent of the MOU is to reduce coastal use permitting (CUP) delays while maintaining continued stewardship of Louisiana’s highly valuable coastal resources.

Agency officials want to encourage applicants and their agents to learn and know more about changes in these procedures. Some of the more significant changes, like acquiring a work permit for projects located on oyster seed grounds an other public oyster harvesting areas, will be discussed at three upcoming workshops/training sessions.

The departments will hold sessions to interact and answer questions about the procedures. The schedule is as follows:

May 17th, 9:00 AM
Jefferson Parish Council Chamber Room
Yenni Building
1221 Elmwood Park Blvd.
Jefferson, Louisiana

May 19th, 9:00 AM
Main Conference Room
Estuarine Habitats and Coastal Fisheries Center

May 24th, 9:00 AM
