Thursday, November 12, 2009

The state Mineral and Energy Board on Thursday conducted its monthly lease sale in the LaBelle Room of the LaSalle Office Building in Baton Rouge.

The board collected more than $2.6 million in bonuses in the sale, bringing the total collected for the financial year that began July 1 to more than $25.3 million.

In all, 13 leases covering more than 1,380 acres were awarded, out of 23 nominated tracts covering more than 19,700 acres in the November sale.

The Board sold leases in 10 parishes - Caddo, Calcasieu, Iberia, Lafourche, Red River, Plaquemines, Sabine, St. Mary, Terrebonne and Vermilion.  Of the 13 leases sold, 2 were in north Louisiana and the remaining 11 were located in the southern part of the state.

One of the two north Louisiana leases was sold in the area of the Haynesville Shale natural gas formation - touching on Caddo and Red River parishes. The lease bonus for that sale was $26,000 an acre.
