Ribbon cutting ceremony set for the Myette Point boat launch

What:  The St. Mary Parish government and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are having a ceremonial ribbon cutting for the completed construction of the Myette Point boat launch near Charenton, La.

When:      Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 4:00 p.m.

Where:    Myette Point Boat Launch site (directions included below)
              Martin Ridge Road
              St. Mary Parish, LA

Background:  The Myette Point boat launch will provide access to areas such as the Attakapas Wildlife Management Area and the Corps’ fee lands in the Shatter’s Bayou area.  The completion of this project is the result of a partnership between St. Mary Parish, the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The project consists of several features, including a new concrete boat ramp with four lanes, a canoe launching ramp, a floating courtesy dock adjacent to the ramp, a concrete landing area, restroom facilities, and a crushed stone parking area that can accommodate vehicles with trailers.

Directions:
From Lafayette:  Take US-90 East toward Morgan City.  Take the LA-83 exit toward Baldwin. Turn right on Main Street/LA-182.  Continue to follow LA-182 for 1.7 miles, then turn left at Katy Bridge Appr. Rd.  Turn right at LA-87.  Stay on LA-87, then turn left at Martin Ridge Rd/ Parish Rd 123.  Follow Parish Rd 123 to boat launch site.

From New Orleans: Take US-90 W toward Houma.  Exit at LA-3211 N toward Franklin.  Turn left at LA-182 N.  Follow LA-182, then turn left at Katy Bridge Rd.  Turn right at LA-87.  Stay on LA-87, then turn left at Martin Ridge Rd/Parish Rd 123.  Follow Parish Rd 123 to boat launch.
