Location: | In Cameron Parish in southwest Louisiana lies the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge composed of 3,300 acres. Project area is just west of LA Hwy. 27. |
Cost: | Cycle 1 of the project cost $3.4 million. Cycles 2-5 are expected over the next 5 years. $8.9 million has been approved for the second and third Cycles. |

Summary: | The project will create marsh in large, open water areas of the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge. The completed project will also provide benefits to minimize wind-induced erosive conditions and saltwater introduction and freshwater loss. Increase nourishment in adjacent marshes will reduce open water fetch and erosion of marsh fringe. |
What's ahead: | Cycle 2 is expected to start in 2005. Three more pumping cycles will be completed by 2008. By Cycle 5, the project will have resulted in more than 1,120 acres of marsh created with additional protection to nearly 1,000 acres. |
