Senator Gautreaux Receives Conservationist of the Year Award

Senator Butch Gautreaux of Morgan City has a legislative record for working on conservation efforts in this state, and now he has a Conservationist of the Year award to go with that. He was recognized along with several others for outstanding conservation achievements in 2001 by the Louisiana Wildlife Federation (LWF) at a ceremony held this month in Marksville.
Sen. Gautreaux was nominated by the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for his ongoing contributions toward the protection and wise use of Louisiana's natural resources, particularly, for his leadership with legislation. The award recipients were chosen by a panel of independent judges with expertise in a wide range of conservation fields.
Gautreaux received a handsome statuette of a black bear at the 38th Conservation Achievement Recognition Banquet held by the LWF at its 63rd Annual Meeting.
Gautreaux was cited for leadership in the Louisiana Legislature, particularly in advancing the conservation and recreation plan for the Atchafalaya Basin and the state's coastal restoration initiatives, both under the administrative arm of DNR.
The Louisiana Wildlife Federation is a statewide conservation education and advocacy organization with over 13,000 members and 35 affiliate groups. Established in 1940, it is affiliated with the National Wildlife Federation and represents a broad constituency of conservationists including hunters, fishers, campers, birders, boaters, and other outdoor enthusiasts.
