State Geologist Dr. M. B. Kumar Receives National Medal

The Parker Medal is the highest honor awarded by the American Institute of Professional Geologists. Dr. Kumar received the award at the AIPG’s annual meeting in early October.

Dr. Madhurendu B. Kumar, Director of the Geological Oil and Gas Division at the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), was recently named the top recipient of the Ben H. Parker Memorial Medal awarded by the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG), a world premier organization.  This commendation is the organization’s most prestigious award, presented to individuals with extensive and distinguished service to the geological profession.

Dr. Kumar has over 30 years of professional state government service and has received several awards, including the Martin Van Couvering Memorial Award for professional excellence and leadership in 2002. Kumar has authored numerous scientific papers and has represented the Office of Conservation’s Geological Division at national and international meetings. He is a long time member of AIPG and has served as the institute’s Vice President and in other leadership roles.

The award will be presented to him at the AIPG Annual Meeting in Traverse City, Michigan on Tuesday, October 9th.
