As part of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources’ series of events leading up to Earth Day 2009, the Office of Conservation’s Oilfield Site Restoration Program will host a media tour of two recently completed restoration sites in St. Landry parish on Thursday, April 2nd.

The field trip will highlight not only the land recovery on those sites, but the history of the Oilfield Site Restoration Program in the state, the progress made, and the partnership with industry that has made the program a fifteen year success.

The site visit is the first of several events planned to commemorate Earth Day and expand public awareness of the state’s efforts to preserve and protect the environment in balance with responsible development of Louisiana’s natural resources.

“We work every day to protect the resources of the state that provides energy to the nation, but the recognition of Earth Day is an appropriate time to highlight that effort,” said Department of Natural Resources Secretary Scott Angelle. “Louisiana is not an either-or state. We can hunt, fish, camp and live in a clean, healthy environment while still providing the energy needed to fuel our state and our nation. In Louisiana, we can have it all.”
