Taylor Energy Oil Spill Consent Decree Available for Public Comment

Wednesday, January 5, 2022

A proposed Consent Decree has been filed with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana in United States v. Taylor Energy Company LLC, Civil Case No. 20-2910 (E.D. La.). Subject to a 40-day public comment period and court review and approval, the consent decree will resolve claims, including natural resource damage (NRD) claims, against Taylor Energy arising from the discharge of oil from Taylor Energy’s former oil production facility in the Gulf of Mexico, which began when the facility was damaged during Hurricane Ivan in September of 2004. The State trustees (LOSCO, LDEQ, LDNR, LDWF, and CPRA) are co-trustees for natural resources injured by the spill, and the NRD settlement money is a joint recovery to be used for natural resource restoration projects selected by the federal and State trustees.
