The project consist of dredging and pumping approximately 4.6 million cubic yards of sediment from an offshore sand source to the island. The borrow area was located approximately 14,000 feet from the project site and is south of Little Pass, between Timbalier and East Timbalier Islands. Sand fencing was also installed on the dune platform. This fencing will help capture and retain wind blown sand. |
What's ahead: | The next phase will include vegetative planting to begin summer spring 2005. The vegetation will be planted on the dune and marsh platforms to help capture and retain wind blown sand.
