BATON ROUGE---The public is invited to come and see the Pollution Solution Tour 2000: a national traveling display that includes a solar-powered mobile home and two alternative fueled vehicles, on Friday, March 17th at the LSU campus on Tower Drive from 10 am to 3 pm.

The state Department of Natural Resources' Energy Office is a co-sponsor of this educational, hands-on exhibit presented by the National Environmental Trust in its nationwide campaign on global warming education. Several non-polluting devices will be shown that encourage energy-efficiency and the use of alternative fuel sources such as natural gas and propane.

Additionally, DNR is promoting the viewing of its photovoltaic (solar-power) building located at the Waddill Refuge Outdoor Educational Pavilion, 4142 North Flannery Road in Baton Rouge. The project demonstration was opened in August 1999, to show the benefits of solar technology in helping to improve our environment by reducing energy usage. To schedule a tour of the facility contact DNR's Energy Office at 225-342-4498 or via email to buddyj@dnr.state.la.us.

DNR will also co-sponsor a public event on Wednesday, April 12th that will recognize the Greater Baton Rouge area as part of the national Clean Cities program. The City of Baton Rouge and the Greater Baton Rouge Clean Cities Coalition will host this ceremony bringing federal Department of Energy (DOE) officials, state and community leaders, and local school groups together. Alternative fueled vehicles, exhibits, and an award-winning model "city of the future" will be featured.

Pollution Solutions Tour 2000 is scheduled in New Orleans (Tulane University campus, March 14, 15) and Lafayette (University of Louisiana campus, March 16).
