Two Seminars planned on Permitting in Coastal Zone in March

Wednesday, February 29, 2012

State and federal agencies have shared responsibility in permitting activities that take place in the coastal zone of Louisiana. The state Department of Natural Resources’ Office of Coastal Management (OCM) has responsibility, both for protecting and for development which occurs in the coastal zone and will hold two seminars in the month of March to explain the permitting process and agency roles in the regulation of coastal resources.

OCM will host two full-day seminars titled "Regulatory and Commenting Agency Permitting Roles in the Louisiana Coastal Zone".  Interested groups, individuals, and coastal users will get an understanding of the goals of the office and of the roles various state and federal agencies assume during review of  permit applications submitted to the Office of Coastal Management and Corps of Engineers.

The first seminar will be held March 1st in Baton Rouge, while the second is scheduled on March 28th in Lafayette. The seminars are free and hours are from 8 am to 4 pm. Pre-registration is recommended since space is limited. Contact OCM by email at OCMInfo@la.gov or contact, 225-342-7953 to reserve attendance.  OCM officials said that depending on the public’s response, additional seminars may be planned.
