Workshop focus on installation of windows and doors for historic homes

Monday, October 2, 2006

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources’ Energy Office has teamed up with the Preservation Resource Center (PRC) in sponsoring several workshops to promote energy-efficient products and materials as well as hands-on training in the proper insulation techniques in the rebuilding of historic homes in the New Orleans area.

What:

The "Keep Your Cool! Windows and Doors" workshop is the third in a multi-part monthly series of energy efficiency workshops. The workshop will explain how retro-fitting and repairing old windows and doors can yield weatherproof, leak free results, while maintaining the historic character of your home. When new materials are called for in a historic home renovation, use the guidance offered at this workshop to shop for water- and impact- resistant products for new construction.

When: Wednesday, October 11, 2006
5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Where: 923 Tchoupitoulas Street, New Orleans, LA (PRC headquarters, between St. Joseph and Andrew Higgins)
Project:

Other scheduled workshops sponsored by DNR and PRC as part of the project include:

Nov. 15 Learn about Lighting and Appliances
Jan. 10 Learn about Photovoltaics and more

The workshop series will conclude in March 2007 during the PRC’s annual “Shotgun House Month” with a tour of the Holy Cross homes that were part of the demonstration project.

Workshops are free to the public.
