Workshops focus on home energy efficiency and products

Friday, January 5, 2007

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) Energy Office has teamed up with the Preservation Resource Center (PRC) in sponsoring several workshops to promote energy-efficient products and materials as well as hands-on training in the installation of home appliances and proper lighting techniques in the rebuilding of historic homes or building new ones in the New Orleans area.

What:

The "Learn about Photovoltaics/Solar Energy" workshop is the fifth in a multi-part series of energy efficiency workshops.

This workshop will provide an overview of both solar water heaters and photovoltaic cells. Operation, application, and sizing information will be provided as well as a discussion of how residential structures in Louisiana can utilize solar power.

All workshops explore building industry innovations which save homeowners money and reduce the amount of energy used in the home.   An overview of all energy efficient choices discussed in this series will be featured on a DVD scheduled for release in early 2007.

At the same time, the PRC’s Operation Comeback and DNR will unveil energy efficiency plans for five properties owned by the PRC in the Holy Cross neighborhood, including four rehabilitations of historic houses and one new construction. Intermittent demonstrations will take place on-site at the Holy Cross houses as equipment is installed.

When:

Wednesday, January 24, 2007
5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Where:

923 Tchoupitoulas Street, New Orleans, LA (PRC headquarters, between St. Joseph and Andrew Higgins)

Overview:

“Learn about Photovoltaics/Solar Energy,” sponsored by DNR and PRC is the last scheduled workshop promoting energy-efficient products and materials.  The workshop series will conclude in March 2007 during the PRC’s annual “Shotgun House Month” with a tour of the Holy Cross homes that were part of the demonstration project.

Workshops are free to the public.
