La. Department of Energy and Natural Resources (DNR)
OFFICE OF CONSERVATION
GEOLOGICAL OIL AND GAS DIVISION
NEW DIVISION DIRECTOR NAMED
Commissioner of Conservation James H. “Jim” Welsh announced today that David P. “Dave” Elfert has been selected the new Geologist Administrator and will serve as the Office of Conservation’s Geological Oil and Gas Division Director. Elfert will replace Dr. M. B. Kumar, who will culminate a long and distinguished career as top geologist within the Geological Oil and Gas Division.
Commissioner Welsh said that Elfert was chosen from a list of exceptionally well-qualified and experienced petroleum geologists also vying for the top position. He noted that the selection process was tough, but that Elfert’s expertise and knowledge coupled with his long history of voluntarily reaching out to other Conservation staff and professionals to problem-solve and perfect assignments, helped conclude the selection process.
Elfert received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Nicholls State University in 1980 and a Masters’ degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1983. Elfert worked in the oil and gas industry as a geologist for Placid Oil Company and N.L. Industries prior to beginning his career in state government for the Office of Conservation in 1988. Elfert begins his new duties as Division Director on February 15, 2013.
