International visitors learn about coastal efforts
Coastal scientist Chuck Villarubia knows no stranger it seems, he has been tasked on many occasions to work with visiting journalists, national science magazine writers, other biologists and researchers as they seek knowledge of the state’s coastal restoration projects, particularly, the two freshwater diversion projects known as Caernarvon and Davis Pond.
Message from the Secretary on Levee Reform
Historic, Defining, Symbolic, Real Reform: Call it anything you want but what took place at our State Capitol was quite a victory for our state and our citizens. Governor Blanco has shown that her fight for reforming a broken system could be won and now all of America can sit up and take notice. Levee board policy and management is well on its way to change, and the public safety of our citizens will be, without a doubt, much better because of it. The Louisiana Legislature overwhelmingly supported true and meaningful reform.

Job Corps Students Welcomed to DNR, part of Job Shadow Day
Louisiana Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) officials will host a group of students from the Carville Job Corps Academy to participate in the Ninth Annual Groundhog Job Shadow Program on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006. DNR joins thousands of employers and agencies around the country that sponsor this event which is traditionally held on Groundhog Day in the month of February.
STATE AUTHORIZES ALTERNATIVE FUEL PRODUCTION
Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Secretary Scott Angelle has recently announced the department’s approval for the extraction of an alternative fossil fuel, known as “coal seam natural gas” at three sites in Caldwell parish.
