U.S. DOE Energy Official to Visit LSU Building Showhouse and Energy-Efficient Habitat Home
The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Acting Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Douglas L. Faulkner, will kick off a series of seminars throughout the Gulf Coast region to promote energy efficiency in post-hurricane rebuilding efforts Thursday, December 15, 2005. The “Rebuilding and Restoring Homes for the Gulf Coast Region” seminar will bring together building industry professionals, including architects, general contractors, residential inspectors, realtors, home builders and owners on the campus of Louisiana State University Agricultural Center.
Ducks Unlimited, L.D.W.F., L.D.N.R. & Partners Dedicate Wetland Restoration Project
Ducks Unlimited joined a coalition of state, local, and federal partners, and private supporters today at the Pointe-aux-Chenes Wildlife Management Area in Terrebonne Parish to dedicate the first restored wetland since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the region.

The Corps of Engineers and the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) officials recently gathered at Lake Fausse Pointe Park for the ground breaking of the first phase of construction for the Buffalo Cove water management project and the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Levee Road.
DOE grant with state energy office to enhance rebuilding efforts
The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Technology Assessment Division has been awarded a $100,000 grant by the United States Department of Energy (DOE) to incorporate energy-efficient and sustainable design practices into Louisiana’s rebuilding efforts. National experts with many years of experience will be available to share building design concepts at scheduled forums to be held in the hurricane affected regions of the state.
Ribbon Cutting for the Levee Road & Ground Breaking for the Buffalo Cove Water Management Unit
State and local officials from the Department of Natural Resources and Iberia and St. Martin parishes will participate in a ribbon cutting for the Levee Road project starting at 9 a.m.. Following that event, there will be a trip to Sandy Cove Landing for a boat ride to Buffalo Cove and Skerrett’s Point for the ground breaking of the Buffalo Cove Water Management Unit.
