Paddling Trail at Bayou Courtableau will open November 10th
Mark your calendars and don’t miss opening ceremonies for the first paddling trail in the Atchafalaya Basin at Bayou Courtableau, Sunday, November 10th at noon in Krotz Springs.
State Fire Marshal and state accept national safety role
Louisiana is the first state to accept the challenge of achieving a national goal of “zero deaths, zero injuries, and no significant harm to property and the environment” from pipeline accidents. State Fire Marshall V.J. Bella announced today that he would take on the leadership role for the state in this initiative.

The State Mineral Board conducted a Lease Sale October 9, 2002, at 10 a.m. in the Conservation & Mineral Resources Hearing Room located in the LaSalle Office Building in Baton Rouge. Below are the preliminary results of the Lease Sale and 2002-2003 Fiscal Year totals.
LOUISIANA SCHOOLS TO SAVE MONEY WITH ENERGY RETROFITS
A number of parish school systems across the state have recently been awarded energy and water conservation contracts aimed at sending their energy costs spiraling downward. Last month, the Louisiana Public Facilities Authority (LPFA) and the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) received approval to finance seven energy and water conservation projects.

Mississippi River’s 1st large sediment diversion project will begin next year

Construction will begin in spring 2003 on the West Bay Sediment Diversion Project, a first-of-its-kind wetlands restoration in coastal Louisiana featuring uncontrolled sediment diversion from the Mississippi River.
