CPRA Draft Report for Public Review
The Integrated Planning Team (IPT) of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) has just released a sixty-two page report this week to the Louisiana Congressional members, state officials, media, and the public. The report is available on the IPT website at www.louisianacoastalplanning.org.

SJB Group, LLC in Baton Rouge has been awarded the engineering and design contract for the Riverine Sand Mining / Scofield Island Restoration Project by the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the National Marine Fisheries Service.
DNR and NOAA Begin Coastal Restoration Project
The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Restoration Center have awarded a $17.7 million wetlands restoration contract that will protect and create 1,400 acres of wetlands in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana.

Sparta Aquifer Determination Issued by Conservation Office
The state’s Office of Conservation has issued a final order today declaring portions of the Sparta Aquifer in north Louisiana to be critical ground water areas. The Commissioner of Conservation has made certain determinations and has spelled out the conditions to be followed as required by state law. Commissioner of Conservation James Welsh said the order does not mandate any current restrictions on new or existing water wells.
Teaming up in Washington for Coastal Efforts in State
Coastal parish officials across the state were invited last week to join state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Secretary Scott Angelle for briefings on coastal matters with members of Louisiana’s congressional delegation in Washington, D.C.
Avoyelles Parish and DNR Sign Master Plan
Senator Donald Hines, Representative Monica Walker, and government officials recently signed a cooperative agreement to spend $158,500 for beautification and other projects associated with the Avoyelles Master Plan. The legislators from Bunkie and Marksville respectively, joined Department of Natural Resources officials and Avoyelles Parish President Kirby Roy at the Capitol to move the plan forward.
America's Wetland Highlighted at National Estuaries Conference
Baton Rouge, LA – Jack Caldwell, Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, today focused attention on Louisiana’s coastal land loss at the Inaugural National Conference on Coastal and Estuarine Habitat Restoration – Saving Our Coastal Heritage. Secretary Caldwell, along with other nationally recognized leaders in the field of coastal habitat restoration, presented the information at a plenary session, entitled “Leadership Visions in Habitat Restoration.”
Caldwell is Conservationist of the Year 2002
The Louisiana Wildlife Federation has honored Jack C. Caldwell as the Professional Conservationist of the Year at its annual recognition banquet held on Saturday (March 1st) in Shreveport. Caldwell is an appointee of Governor Mike Foster, serving as head of the state Department of Natural Resources.
