SONRIS/2000, the nationally-known information system designed by the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), will be featured in a series of training workshops coming this May. DNR officials want on-line users seeking the state’s oil and gas records and maps to know that the system is designed to meet their needs.

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) implemented the Strategic Online Natural Resources Information System (SONRIS) in 1999 to provide petroleum exploration/ production and coastal restoration/management data to its staff, industry and the public via the Internet. SONRIS consists of Oracle databases, electronic document image access, and custom online interactive map production via a geographic information system (GIS).

Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Secretary Jack Caldwell today presented to Nicholls State University a piece of history in the form of a "Time Capsule" for safekeeping until the year 2050. The Time Capsule presentation took place during the opening event of the Barataria-Terrebonne Culture and Ecological Festival at Peltier Park in Thibodaux. The capsule contains plans, policies, letters, maps and videos associated with the state's Coast 2050 planning initiative from the years 1997-1998.

The Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR), Office of Mineral Resources announced today that it will be placing back on the market for mineral leasing approximately 46,000 acres in the next several weeks. The available acreage comes from parts of three existing state mineral leases which originated some 70 years ago.
