Conservation Order Addresses Sustainability of Sparta Aquifer
Commissioner of Conservation James H. "Jim" Welsh has declared today three areas in North Louisiana within the Sparta Aquifer as areas of groundwater concern. “With implementation of this order, this will be the first time for state government to come to the plate and step into the role of assuring future groundwater usage in Louisiana,” the Commissioner said.

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Technology Assessment Division officials recently recognized several public entities and private businesses for their leadership in energy conservation in the state.

The State Mineral Board conducted its monthly lease sale on July 13, 2005, at 10 a.m. in the Conservation and Mineral Resources Hearing Room located in the LaSalle Office Building in Baton Rouge.
Student Winners Honored for "Saving Our Wetlands" Contest
DNR Secretary Scott Angelle salutes the statewide winners of the Governor's Office of Environmental Education’s Art and Language Contest held this year on June 21, 2005. This is the third year of the contest sponsored by Alcoa Foundation and the Environmental Education office. The contest theme "Louisiana: Saving Our Wetlands" produced winners in four age groups for both art entries and writing entries.

Letter to the Editor: Gov. Blanco reiterates state’s position on LNG
I am writing in response to your recent editorial criticizing the decision of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources to issue a consistency determination for ExxonMobil’s Pearl Crossing Liquefied Natural Gas terminal proposed to be located more than 35 miles off Louisiana’s coast. This decision was based on factors outlined in Louisiana’s coastal zone management program. The Department of Natural Resources concluded that the Pearl Crossing LNG project was generally consistent with state management plans, but that concerns remained about the impacts to marine life of the open-loop system proposed to be used by the terminal.
