Mineral Board Holds February Meeting
The State Mineral Board conducted a Lease Sale February 11, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. in the Conservation and Mineral Resources Hearing Room located in the LaSalle Office Building in Baton Rouge. Below are the preliminary results of the Lease Sale and 2003-2004 Fiscal Year totals.

It’s new, newsworthy, educational, and soon to be broadcast in your area. Disappearing Wetlands of Louisiana, a Turner South film production is set to be shown throughout the state on LBP, Tuesday, March 2 at 9 p.m. The 30-minute documentary takes a close-up view of coastal Louisiana and the people working to save a crippled yet valuable ecosystem.
Energy officials host Clean Cities conference in Baton Rouge
The Clean Cities Statewide Conference met in late January in Baton Rouge to discuss the use of alternative-fuels for public transportation vehicles in the state. Over 60 representatives including the U.S. Department of Energy/Clean Cities program officials, transportation industry officials and members of the Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Shreveport Clean Cities program met to share perspectives on the benefits of using alternative-fuels and hybrid vehicles.
Sabine Refuge Marsh Creation Project
The project will create marsh in large, open water areas of the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge. The completed project will also provide benefits to minimize wind-induced erosive conditions and saltwater introduction and freshwater loss. Increase nourishment in adjacent marshes will reduce open water fetch and erosion of marsh fringe.
Coastal Wetland Permitting seminar planned
Coastal officials at the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) have recently implemented new measures that make the coastal “permitting” process easier for the public and industry. To support these efforts, DNR is hosting an inter-agency seminar to educate participants on the new procedures and ways to speed-up project requests.

Department of Natural Resources has river model as research tool
A small scale physical model of the Mississippi River Delta---imagine that as a tool for coastal restoration. Done. Researchers and scientists are now well on their way to seeing this concept take shape, work, and provide some answers to the state’s coastal restoration program.

Pre-opening look at Atchafalaya Welcome Center on I-10
Officials of the state departments of Natural Resources, Transportation and Development, and Culture, Recreation and Tourism and Wildlife and Fisheries held a pre-opening review of the new Atchafalaya Welcome Center on Friday, December 19, 2003. The pre-opening visit allowed elected and appointed officials a chance to walk-through the construction areas as well as discuss the status of the project.
