December Mineral Lease Sale Results Issued
The State Mineral Board conducted a Lease Sale December 10, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. in the Conservation and Mineral Resources Hearing Room located in the LaSalle Office Building in Baton Rouge. Below are the preliminary results of the Lease Sale and 2003-2004 Fiscal Year totals.
Energy Expo has broad impact
The 2003 Business Energy Solutions Expo will be presented at the New Orleans’ Ernest Morial Convention Center this week, on December 11th and 12th for industry leaders, consultants and professionals. The exposition and program will address proven energy strategies that can increase power reliability. Hot topics include best practices for energy management, the need to secure reliable power, and how new devices help conserve energy.
OILFIELD WASTE DISPOSAL SITE CLEANED UP
The site of an abandoned commercial oilfield-waste disposal facility near the community of Cankton in St. Landry Parish was transformed in 2003 to a vast stretch of freshly turned earth. This large-scale cleanup, implemented over a four-year period, came about because of the efforts of committed citizens, two major oil and gas exploration and production companies, and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

State and Corps Announce New Permit Form
The state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has just introduced a new Joint Permit Application form for most permitting work done within the Louisiana Coastal Zone. The form was created in conjunction with the New Orleans District U. S. Army Corps of Engineers to eliminate old forms that were deemed overly complicated.

Pipeline Map and Database Produced for State
The U.S. Minerals Management Service (MMS) and the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) signed a cooperative agreement two years ago, to produce a map and maintain a database of pipelines in the offshore waters of the state of Louisiana. MMS and DNR have now completed the project which involved many man-hours, research, and GIS (geographic information systems) expertise.

October Lease Sale Reported by State Mineral Board
As the culmination of two years working closely with the Russell Sage Foundation (a 50 percent mineral owner under Marsh Island) and the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, an exclusive geophysical agreement was awarded to Summit Energy Company, LLC at the October mineral lease sale in the amount of $4.6 million covering 160,000 acres located primarily in Iberia Parish. The area of the exclusive geophysical agreement includes Marsh Island, on which is located the Marsh Island Wildlife Refuge operated by the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and surrounding waters.
HERO Program at DNR Wins Again

The state Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) Home Energy Rebate Option (HERO) program is once again a top winner of the Energy Star Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy. The HERO program has been recognized for its outstanding contributions to environmental protection and energy efficiency by qualifying 2,268 Energy Star homes during 2003.
