State Conservation Office acts on Sparta Aquifer in northern parishes
The Commissioner of Conservation issued a draft order today declaring portions of the Sparta Aquifer in north Louisiana to be critical ground water areas. The issuance of the draft order (CGWA-1-04) is the result of an application made by the Sparta Ground Water Conservation District in 2002.
National PR Groups Award DNR and State Campaign

The America’s WETLAND Campaign and Louisiana Department of Natural Resources received national acclaim this spring for its work on “spreading the word” about Louisiana’s coastal land loss issues. The America's WETLAND campaign, sponsored by the Governor’s Office has recently been honored with the Silver Anvil Award presented by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).

The State Mineral Board conducted a Lease Sale June 9, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. in the Conservation and Mineral Resources Hearing Room located in the LaSalle Office Building in Baton Rouge. Below are the preliminary results of the Lease Sale and 2003-2004 Fiscal Year totals.
ANGELLE CHAIRS NEW MINERAL BOARD
The newly appointed State Mineral Board held its first meeting and mineral lease sale at the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) headquarters in Baton Rouge earlier this month. The group, recently appointed by Governor Kathleen Blanco, met on May 12th and chose DNR Secretary Scott Angelle to serve as Chairman.

DNR Exhibits at Earth Day 2004
The theme “One Environment, No Borders” sets the stage for celebrating the earth at this year’s Baton Rouge Earth Day, held in downtown Baton Rouge on North Blvd. on Sunday, April 18th. Activities will begin at 12 noon and continue until 8:30 p.m.
Proposed water flow project at Bayou Lafourche discussed
The proposed Mississippi River Reintroduction Into Bayou Lafourche project sponsored by the state and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will be discussed at a series of public hearings to be held April 22-28, 2004.
NATURAL RESOURCES’ SECRETARY SPEAKS TO OIL GROUPS
The first day at the office, but the second day began out in the field, so it was for the new state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Secretary Scott A. Angelle. Having resigned his local government presidency in St. Martin Parish on Monday, Secretary Angelle hit the ground running on Tuesday and moved into Governor Blanco’s regime, officially taking the reign at the State Capitol Park Complex/LaSalle Office Building at DNR.
Grant provides safety training for miners
A federal/state grant has been awarded to the Louisiana Department of Natural Resource (DNR) to provide safety training for workers in the mining industries.
