Public Hearing at DNR for Proposed Plaquemines' CZM Program
Plaquemines parish officials are proposing to join eight other coastal parishes in establishing a local coastal zone management (CZM) program for their communities. In doing so, state agency approval is required in the approval process as is public comment, Department of Natural Resources (DNR) officials announced today.
Shreveport Homeowners Get Cash Back From DNR Home Energy Loan Program
Louisiana Department of Natural Resources' Energy Section officials will present checks to two local homeowners during the Home Product Show on Sunday, February 13, 2000 at the Shreveport Expo Hall. DNR Energy Program Manager Wade Byrd said the presentation will start at 2:00 p.m.
COASTAL VEGETATION PLANTING PROGRAM: A GROWING SUCCESS
A renewed interagency agreement between the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Department of Agriculture and Forestry (DAF) will assist in revitalizing vegetation throughout the state's coastal areas. According to DNR's Project Manager Kenneth Bahlinger, the 1996-97 Vegetation Planting Program has reached its sixth year and has successfully used 330,000 marsh plants in over 111 sites in coastal Louisiana.
TRAPPING INCENTIVE TO AID NUTRIA FIGHT
Two state agencies and coastal landowners are teaming up to fight the overpopulation of nutria in coastal Louisiana. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) officials said that monies from the Wetlands Trust Fund will be made available for a cost-sharing program whereby nutria trappers can be paid more per pelt. The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (DWF) will administer the program on an annual basis.
DNR OFFERS COMMERCIALIZATION VENTURES PROGRAM
A cost-sharing grant program known as the Commercialization Ventures Program (CVP) is available through the Department of Natural Resources' (DNR) Energy Section. The program solicitation period is now open to Louisiana companies with projects that will accelerate the commercialization of emerging renewable energy technologies. The aim of the program is to put into the marketplace new energy technologies, as well as to improve or expand facilities for manufacturing renewable energy technologies.
