DNR to Host Clean Cities Conference in New Orleans
The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host a statewide Clean Cities Conference on January 24-26, 2007 in New Orleans at the Astor Crowne Plaza Hotel. The conference will promote the use of alternative fuels to reduce air pollution and improve air quality. It will also focus on practices that help reduce dependency on foreign oil.
HERO Program at DNR Wins Again

The state Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) Home Energy Rebate Option (HERO) program is once again a top winner of the Energy Star Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy. The HERO program has been recognized for its outstanding contributions to environmental protection and energy efficiency by qualifying 2,268 Energy Star homes during 2003.
HENDERSON LAKE WEED REMOVAL PROJECT WORKS
The aquatic weed, hydrilla, no longer plagues Henderson Lake in the Atchafalaya Basin, thanks to the success of a special treatment program, state officials announced today. The state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and scientists with the LSU AgCenter reported an 80 percent removal rate within a four-month period of time.
Mississippi River’s 1st large sediment diversion project will begin next year

Construction will begin in spring 2003 on the West Bay Sediment Diversion Project, a first-of-its-kind wetlands restoration in coastal Louisiana featuring uncontrolled sediment diversion from the Mississippi River.

DNR SUPPORTS CONSERVATION FUND IN LAUNCHING NATURAL RESOURCES LEADERSHIP COUNCIL
Louisiana Department of Natural Resources' officials joined forces with other agencies charged with conservation, resource management and outdoor recreation to form a bi-partisan organization aimed at building partnerships between the states and the federal government to enhance the management and conservation of America's natural resources. Until now, there has not been a formal organization to take a comprehensive view of natural resource protection. This unique organization, called the Natural Resources Leadership Council of the States (NRLCS), recently received its approval from the National Governors Association to formally organize.
DNR has strong support for Master Farmers

DNR Deputy Secretary Katherine Vaughan appeared at a press conference in New Orleans to speak on the Master Farmer Program, a soil and water conservation program with the potential to become a national model. The program was launched in January by the LSU AgCenter but was announced to the public at this year's Louisiana Farm Bureau Convention held June 26-30 at the New Orleans Marriott.

This year's spring tour of projects of the Atchafalaya Basin Program will take place on Thursday, May 2, 2002 at Lake Verret near Napoleonville, announced Atchafalaya Basin Program Director Sandra Thompson Decoteau.
State Fishermen Gear Reimbursement Program Explained
The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is responsible for the operations of the state's Fisherman Gear Compensation Program and Fund (FGCF). The fund was established by the legislature to reimburse commercial fishermen for lost or damaged vessels and gear due to underwater obstructions. Fishermen operating in state-owned water bottoms located in the Louisiana Coastal Zone that incur losses may place their claim with DNR.
COASTAL IMPACT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM DNR to host public meetings in New Orleans and Lafayette
Two public meetings are scheduled in June to discuss the state's draft plans for the coastal impact assistance program (CIAP) to be held in New Orleans and Lafayette, June 4th and 11th. Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) coastal officials are working toward providing a final plan to Governor Foster on July 1st.
